About us

A family caring for yours

Bonzül was founded in 2020 by Karina Loría and Debby Hernández Sánchez, both licensed nurses, with a simple idea: that professional nursing care could come to your home with the warmth, respect and patience every person deserves.

Today Karina and Debby lead Bonzül together, alongside a team of nurses, nursing auxiliaries and patient assistants who share the same way of caring.

“Bonzül was born with one goal: to give you the security and freedom to keep going about your daily life, knowing your loved ones are in good hands.”
What Bonzül means
Bon
From bonsai. Such a delicate plant, the beauty of the tree depends on the one who cares for it.
Zül
From luz, Spanish for light, which represents nursing and the care we provide.

“I deeply believe in the power of love and its ability to transform lives. For me, caring is much more than a profession: it is my way of bringing something good into the world. I have learned that when knowledge and love come together, care goes beyond the physical and leaves a lasting mark on people. Seeing that love reflected in my patients' well-being is what fills my soul and renews my calling every day. Through Bonzül, I invite you to discover our way of caring, because I believe love is not only felt; it is shown in every action.”

Our Bonzül seal is love, patience and excellence.

Frequently asked questions

Your questions, answered

Do you speak English?

Yes! We offer care and support in English, so you and your family can communicate comfortably with our team.

Which areas do you serve?

We provide in-home nursing throughout the Greater Metropolitan Area (GAM), including San José, Escazú, Santa Ana, Heredia, Alajuela and Cartago. We don't have a clinic: we always come to you. If you live outside the GAM, message us and we'll gladly look at your case.

Can I book care for just a few hours?

Yes. Our minimum visit is 4 hours. We offer 4, 8 and 12-hour shifts, 24/7 care, and 5-day-a-week plans of 5, 6 or 8 hours a day.

Do you offer overnight or 24-hour care?

Yes. We arrange day and night shifts, as well as continuous care 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Who will care for my loved one?

We have two kinds of staff: nursing staff (licensed nurses and nursing auxiliaries, registered with the Colegio de Enfermeras de Costa Rica, the national nursing board) and patient assistants. The whole team works under the direction of our co-founders, both licensed nurses, and is matched to each patient's needs and care plan.

How does the assessment work, and is there a fee?

We visit your loved one at home to understand their condition, needs and medical instructions, and use that to build the care plan. The in-home assessment has a $40 fee.

How much does care cost?

Every care plan is different: it depends on the type of care, the number of hours and the patient's condition. Contact us for a personalized quote on WhatsApp, with no obligation.

Do you care for new moms and newborns?

Yes. We support the whole family during pregnancy and postpartum: we care for mom and baby, offer breastfeeding support, and guide the family at home.

Can you accompany my loved one to appointments or on a trip?

Yes. We accompany patients to the hospital and medical appointments, and also on trips or vacations.

Do I need a doctor's order?

For procedures and medications, we follow the instructions of your treating physician. If you have questions, let's talk and we'll guide you.

How soon can you start?

After the assessment, we arrange a start date as soon as possible, based on our team's availability.

How do payments work?

Payments are made every two weeks by SINPE Móvil or bank transfer, and we issue an electronic invoice (factura electrónica).
